TRAVEL GUIDE: NEW YORK CITY

Earlier this year our team spent a week in the city of lights while launching our Star Gazer collection. The city is every changing, with so much excitement bustling around every corner (and so much to discover!). Some long time locals gave us tips on the best places to eat, dine, shop, and explore and everywhere we went was amazing! We wanted to pass the favour on, and share a few of our favourites with you. xx

We stayed at Hotel 50 Bowery – it was so reasonably priced, had amazing views from the room and rooftop bar, and was in such a good location, right in the heart of Chinatown near Soho, Nolita, the Manhattan bridge across to Brooklyn.

WHERE TO EAT:

Breakfast:
The Butchers Daughter – all plant based and so delicious! The breakfast bagel is a personal fave.
Jack’s Wife Freda try the waffles!
Egg Shop – we didn’t get here, but apparently it’s a local go-to.

Coffee:
Any of the breakfast spots above (it wouldn’t be breakfast without coffee!).  Also keep an eye out for these coffee shops scattered around the city:
Irving Farm Coffee Roasters
Gasoline Alley

Dinner:
Tacombi – loved the decor (festoon lights, and a combi parked inside the restaurant!) and we can never say no to tacos!
La Esquina be sure to book if you want to get access to their not-so secret underground restaurant
Ruby’s Cafe – perfect for a casual dinner
The Flower Shop – Australian style diner
By Chloe – vegan place known for it’s pizza

Pizza:
Rubirosa
Prince St Pizza
Joes for a late night delicious New York pizza

WHAT TO DO:

See a Broadway Show – we saw the Book of Morman & Aladdin which were amazing, but you can’t really go wrong!

Rooftop cocktails at sunset – are a must if you’re there in summer.  As the sky fades from blue to pink, the lights of the buildings and traffic start to the glow and magic of the city really settles in. We’re no strangers to beautiful sunsets and we were absolutely blown away.

Picnic in Central Park – pack a picnic and go for a walk in central park. It’s massive and there’s so many spots to lay out a rug and slow time down for a while. TIP – find a Whole Foods store on the way there for your picnic treats. We left it too late and had to scour through a tiny supermarket to put together our spread.

Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge – pretend you’re Miranda looking for Steve in Sex and the City and run and hug a stranger to re-enact the scene. Kidding, but take a camera because the view is amazing!

Live audience in a TV show – we were lucky enough to score a last minute spot in the live audience of the Jimmy Fallon Show – such a fun experience being part of the audience and seeing how the whole production comes together. It’s free but make sure you register well in advance.

WHERE TO SHOP:

Free People – there’s one in the city and we were pretty excited to see Spell in the window when we were there! We love the online experience, so getting it in person was amazing too!

Glossier – we just love their branding and everything

La Mercerie – Cafe has the most amazing homewares store in there, it was expensive but we enjoyed the look!

Reformation – spread out all over the city, make sure you stop into one of their stores and learn about their sustainability journey.

Have any favourites we need to add to this list? Let us know in the comments and we will check them out next time we’re there xx
